I did a test to determine whether Mojobricks had a longer burn time than wood. Check out the video and then leave a comment to let me know what you think!
Enjoy!

Well folks, this is going to be one busy weekend for us at Bigmista’s Barbecue.
Fresh & Easy Free BBQ
This Friday, July 15th, I will be working with Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market to do our 1st FREE BBQ in the L. A. area this year. We have already been to Phoenix, Las Vegas, Palm Springs, San Francisco and Fresno and now we are bringing the BBQ home to you! We will be serving up the Grill Pack that includes 4 ground beef patties, 4 mild italian sausages and approximately 8 pieces of marinated chicken. That’s almost 5 lbs. of meat for only $9.99. We will also be serving sides, chips and dessert.
The address is 2475 Cherry Avenue, Signal Hill, CA 90755 and we will be serving from 5-7pm.
Get Ready for the Eat Real Festival

The Eat Real Festival is this Saturday and Sunday and the whole crew will be there serving up some BBQ goodies for you! The Helms Bakery District in Culver City will be transformed into an epic food festival on July 16-17. Food, drinks, music, demos and more will be on display this weekend. All of the food vendors will be serving up delicious goodies and nothing will be over $5. That’s right! You heard me! No food over $5!! Now that’s a reason to get up off of your couch and get your but over to Culver City for the Eat Real Festival.
And yes we will have PIG CANDY!!!
We’ll be there waiting for you with some Real. Good. Meat.
By this time everyone knows that I was on TLC’s BBQ Pitmasters. (Yeah!)
Everyone also knows that I got skunked on National TV. (Boo!)
So now that we have that out of the way, I can talk about my experience.
I had a truly great time with all of the teams there. We had fun before, during and after the shoot. And we ate our butts off. Let me tell you something, I have absolutely no shame losing to anyone on that episode because everyone there could cook. I think we fed each other more than we fed the judges.
Now let me give you me take on the teams:
Smoking Triggers: Johnny and Trish Trigg are wonderful people. I got a chance to spend some time with both of them and you can tell they really belong together. Johnny is a funny guy but you can tell he has an intensity about him. When he is talking to you, you know it and you’d better pay attention. Trish is everybody’s favorite aunt, the one that you actually like to visit. She is a hoot! I’d have an adult beverage with her anytime.
Big Poppa Smokers: Love these guys. I met them at a contest about 2 weeks before the show and we have been friends ever since. Somehow, these guys found time to play their guitars and play bean bag horseshoes while they were cooking. And it’s a shame that they didn’t get more clips of Sterling (he is Big Poppa) talking. Or at least footage of him stealing our compound butter…
Diva Q BBQ: Danielle, Vlado and Angie Quaale would probably be the only reasons I would go to Canada. Great folks! Quick Story: I am at the Atwater Village Farmers Market on the Sunday before the shoot. I am cutting some brisket for a customer and I hear, “You want me to show you how to do that?” I look and Danielle is standing there, grinning at me. She and her husband got off the plane at LAX, rented a car a drove straight to the Market which is on the other side of Dodger stadium just to see me. How cool is that? I can’t wait to see them again at the American Royal!
Bigmista’s Barbecue: I have to send shout outs, love and big ups to my teammates Sylvie and Professor Salt. I would not have survived the contest without them . They both have an extensive knowledge of exotic ingredients and food in general and it was an honor to have them cook with me. It’s almost impossible to visit their websites and leave without being a better cook than when you got there.
In spite of the outcome, I feel like I made friends for life and I can’t wait to see them all again.
Enjoy!
